Mixed Media Altered Vintage Book with Guest, Cheryl Mezzetti – $60

June 11, 2016 @ 10:00 AM - 2:00 PM

Guest Teacher.  Project Based.

Recycling old books and using them as art journals is quickly becoming all the rage! Join Cheryl for this class and learn how to transform a discarded book (old, recycled or even new) into a creative work of art. You will learn how to use a variety of mixed media products including all Perfect Paints, Shimmering Matte Acrylics, Perfect Paint Texture Mediums and paint additives. Cheryl will be sharing how each of these work both independently and with other products. Each student will receive a unique kit and valuable follow-up emails with links to various sites and videos to help you further your knowledge. We will be adding pockets, vintage trims, ephemera, recycled products and three-dimensional objects!

Creating altered books is something anyone can do – there are no rules and only your unlimited imagination!

Notes from Cheryl:

First you need a book to alter ~ i suggest an older hard backed book approx 5×7 in size, that has some character but a stable spine.  A stable old book is very very important! Pick one that has no inside pages pulling away from the covers {check the inside front and back cover}.  I have bought used old books at  book shops, yard sales, antique shops, goodwill, salvation army and my local library.   You can also use a picture book and work around the pictures, incorporating them into your work.  Some people have brought old travel atlas or old picture books and used the photos from it to alter their book.   Please make sure that the book has matte pages that are NOT thin {older books tend to have thicker pages} as we will be painting and altering the books.

DO NOT bring large oversized books that have 100’s of pages – we will be tearing out pages to make room for altering and these books are too big!

 What to bring:

1 Small~ Medium-sized book ~ SEE ABOVE ~ {old book with STABLE spine (no blank journals , hard-bound with matte pages, since you will be playing and altering the book} Please have book be approx 5×7…slightly smaller or larger is fine…and have at least an 1″- 1.50″maximum in thickness or larger.  Do NOT bring a LARGE book {such as a cookbook, etc} they are too big and have way too many pages

Found objects:  Bring whatever little trickets you have kicking around – I often use old broken jewelry and/or keys, buttons, washers, watch interiors, etc.,etc.  Anything you think would be interesting in your book.  I have had some people bring old clip back earrings, brooches, even old photos or negatives.
